ART
ARTS ATTACK has been incorporated into the TOOLS FOR TOMORROW arts curriculum with
the goal of teaching children how to express themselves through art. The children
learn to see and experience the world in a new way. They learn new skills and concepts
that allow the free flow of expression.
They are taught the elements of art and they study the work of other artists, cultures
and historical periods.
Recognizing that children learn what they are excited about, the emphasis is on
process and hands-on experience as they explore various media and develop skills
in drawing and painting techniques.
How can their confidence and self-esteem not abound when they see their beautiful
work exhibited and admired in venues throughout the community and in a published
anthology.
CREATIVE WRITING
Words are the language of the heart, the mind and the
imagination. They have the power to persuade, to enlighten and to enthrall. The
children in the TOOLS FOR TOMORROW writing program learn to exercise the power of
words.
Through examples of writers and basic story-telling techniques they brainstorm in
small groups, working together to share and organize ideas to produce a final product.
These ideas come to life in poetry, plays, short stories and documentaries.
Self-esteem soars as each child sees concretely the creative power of his or her
imagination put into words in a published anthology.
DRAMA
All children can act! Each has that unique ability to become someone else through
his or her imagination.
Showing them how is what the TOOLS FOR TOMORROW drama program is about. It covers
all aspects of stage production, including improvisation, acting techniques and
stage direction.
The children learn to memorize lines and work as a team
toward a common goal. They experience performing in front of others and practice
courtesy and appreciation for the efforts of their peers.
In doing so, they learn to overcome shyness, gain pride and self-assurance. All
the children in the TOOLS FOR TOMORROW drama program are stars.
MUSIC
All children are born musical! Making music, whether playing instruments or singing,
enthralls youngsters. They love sounds produced by their own hands and voices. The
joy of singing together as well as trying brief solos in order to hear their voices,
encourages self-confidence and self-expression.
The children play mallet instruments, autoharps, drums
and other simple percussion instruments to discover basic concepts of beat, rhythm,
melody, harmony, and in so doing develop the mental discipline needed to make the
music sound well.
TOOLS FOR TOMORROW provides an immediate involvement in this magic world of sound
and touches the children's spirits.
